Instigated by Steve Paxton in 1972 at Oberlin College; improvisational partner form based on physical contact, giving and taking weight, rolling, falling.
What to expect: Found at CI jams, modern dance studios, and somatic movement events. No music required. Very beginner-welcoming — you learn by doing with an experienced partner. No partner needed to attend a jam.

Going for the first time
Modern fusion events blend lead/follow styles — Brazilian Zouk, urban kiz, WCS fusion, liquid-lead. Most welcome solo dancers and rotate partners during lessons.
Lead and follow are roles, not genders. Ask before close embrace. Respect when someone asks for more or less connection.
