Here are 10 cities worth flying to in 2026, ranked by scene depth plus tourist amenities. For each: 2-3 sentences on the dance, one on what to do between dances, one on logistics.
1. Chicago, IL
Chicago is the most complete dance city in the country. There's Latin dancing every night of the week, a strong Lindy Hop scene anchored by the Windy City Lindy Exchange, mature tango milongas, and a full ballroom + WCS scene. You can pick any style, any night, and find a real social.
Between dances: the lakefront walk, deep-dish or tavern-style pizza arguments, the Art Institute, and one of the best restaurant cities in the US. Wrigleyville for baseball, the West Loop for food, Pilsen for Latin culture.
Logistics: O'Hare and Midway both have nonstops from almost everywhere. Public transit and ride shares both work for getting between venues.
2. Kansas City, MO
The swing capital of the US. KC's Lindy Hop community has been one of the most active in the country for 20+ years, and the annual KC Lindy Exchange draws dancers from across the country. The jazz and blues heritage downtown means the music context is real, not nostalgic.
Between dances: 18th & Vine jazz district, world-class barbecue (Q39, Joe's, Arthur Bryant's), the Nelson-Atkins Museum, and the renovated Power & Light district for nightlife.
Logistics: KCI is a small, easy airport. The streetcar handles downtown getting-around for free.

3. Asheville, NC
The home of Lindy Focus, one of the biggest swing dance events in the world, held at New Year's. Even outside the festival week, Asheville has a small but devoted year-round swing community and a regional draw that makes weekend trips worth it.
Between dances: Blue Ridge Parkway, Biltmore Estate, craft beer (Asheville has more breweries per capita than almost any US city), and farm-to-table restaurants. The whole town runs at a slower, mountain pace.
Logistics: AVL airport is small with limited direct flights. Many dancers fly into Charlotte (CLT) and drive 2 hours. Worth it.

4. Nashville, TN
Country dance heritage city. Two-step, line dance, country swing, and Western swing all have weekly homes. The music scene crosses over with the dance scenes constantly. Live music at honky-tonks is the default, not a special occasion.
Between dances: Lower Broadway for the honky-tonk crawl, Music Row for the songwriter rounds, the Country Music Hall of Fame, hot chicken (Hattie B's, Prince's), and an exploding food scene in East Nashville and Germantown.
Logistics: BNA is a busy airport with nonstops from most US cities. Rideshares are easy; the city is car-friendly.

5. New York City, NY
The On 2 mambo capital. NYC's salsa scene is the most technically demanding in the country, and the tango scene is mature and deep. Every style is covered. Lindy Hop has its own well-established community, the swing scene runs nightly somewhere, and there are still legacy social-dance institutions running.
Between dances: it's New York. Pick a neighborhood. Greenwich Village, the Lower East Side, Williamsburg, Harlem all have late-night culture that works with a dancer's schedule.
Logistics: three airports, the subway, and walking. Don't rent a car.

6. Boston, MA
Strong Lindy Hop and tango scenes, plus a meaningful swing community that benefits from the college-town anchor in Cambridge. The Boston Tea Party of Tango runs annually. Lindy events run through Boston Swing Central and related groups.
Between dances: Freedom Trail, North End for Italian food, Cambridge for academic-town cafes, Boston Common, and the Harbor Walk. Easy day trips to Salem or Cape Cod.
Logistics: Logan is a quick T ride from downtown. Boston is walkable in a way most US cities aren't.
7. Denver, CO
A surprising swing scene anchored by Mercury Cafe and other long-running venues, plus a Latin scene that's grown fast in the last decade. The mountain-tourism crossover is unique. You can dance Friday night and ski Saturday morning.
Between dances: RiNo arts district, the Botanic Gardens, day trips to Boulder or Rocky Mountain National Park, and a craft beer + green industry food scene that's hit its stride.
Logistics: DEN is huge and well-connected. Light rail handles downtown to airport in 40 minutes.
8. Portland, OR
A West Coast Swing and blues dance hub with one of the most welcoming communities in the country. Portland blues dance in particular has a national draw. The local scene punches way above the city's population.
Between dances: Powell's Books, food carts, hiking in Forest Park or out to the Gorge, coffee culture that takes itself seriously, and walkable neighborhoods (Pearl District, Alberta, Hawthorne).
Logistics: PDX is consistently rated one of the best US airports. Public transit handles most of the city.

9. Detroit, MI
A multi-style scene that doesn't get the credit it deserves. Motor City Swing's Second Saturday is one of the longest-running monthly dances in the Midwest, and the Latin scene has grown into something serious in the last 5-10 years. Ballroom and tango both have real communities.
Between dances: the Detroit Institute of Arts, Greektown, Eastern Market on Saturday, the riverfront walk, and a restaurant scene (Selden Standard, Marrow, Lady of the House) that quietly competes with much bigger cities.
Logistics: DTW is a major hub with nonstops from everywhere. Downtown is easier to get around than its reputation suggests.
10. Miami, FL
A Latin music city, with bachata and salsa nightly across the metro. The cultural density of Caribbean and South American communities means the music is real, the bands are touring, and the social dance is happening at clubs that would be tourist traps in other cities but are the actual scene here.
Between dances: South Beach, Wynwood Walls, Little Havana for cafecito and dominos, beach days between socials, and a Cuban food scene (Versailles, Sergio's, Havana 1957) that defines the city.
Logistics: MIA and FLL both have nonstops from most of the country. Rent a car. Miami's spread out.
How to plan the trip

- Look for a recurring weekly event you can hit on the night you arrive. Even one night turns the trip from "vacation in a dance city" to "dance vacation."
- Stack a festival weekend if you can. Lindy Focus in Asheville, Windy City Lindy Exchange in Chicago, KC Lindy Exchange, and several Latin congresses across the country are 3-day intensives that justify the flight alone.

- Tell organizers you're visiting. Most dance scenes are welcoming, and a quick "hi, I'm visiting from out of town this week" message to an organizer often gets you connected to the right people fast.

- New Orleans: for the music alone, plus a real Lindy scene and a unique blues + jazz dance pocket.
- Austin: strong country dance scene plus growing Latin and swing.
- San Francisco: mature WCS, robust tango.
- Los Angeles: the West Coast Swing capital plus the biggest Latin scene west of the Mississippi.
- Washington DC: strong blues and Lindy.
