What to expect
Annual Swedish Midsommar festival in the historic village of Bishop Hill, IL (~25 miles west of Galesburg). Free all-day concerts in the village park gazebo starting at 11 a.m., followed at 4 p.m. by a Swedish Maypole procession from the park to Colony School with traditional Maypole dancing and refreshments. Evening old-fashioned barn dance at Colony School with live music by the Rusty Pickup String Band and caller Gail Hintze ($5 admission). Participatory dancing is a central feature; no experience required.
